Welcome to your go-to resource for all things recital-related for Evelyn Ott School of Dance presents “Better When I’m Dancing” on June 27th, 2026! This hub is designed to help keep recital season fun, organized, and stress-free with important dates, rehearsal information, drop-off and pickup procedures, and everything families need leading up to recital weekend. We can’t wait to celebrate another incredible season with our dancers and families at the beautiful Harrison Opera House!

Dress Rehearsal and Recital performances will take place at the Harrison Opera House. Please allow extra time for parking and arrival during the recital weekend. Please note this is a City of Norfolk controlled parking lot, and families should be prepared to pay applicable parking fees.

Recital Trophy & Flowers
Celebrate your dancer's special day with recital flowers and personalized trophies. Advanced pre-orders guarantee availability and must be submitted by June 12th. Spring bouquets and trophies are $20 each. Cash payments may be made at the front desk or via CashApp: $EOSOD2025.
Drop off & pick up procedures
ACT ONE DANCERS NEED TO ARRIVE BY 5:00 PM DRESS REHEARSAL / 1:00 PM RECITAL
ACT TWO DANCERS NEED TO ARRIVE BY 5:30 PM DRESS REHEARSAL / 1:30 PM RECITAL

Recital will be held at the Harrison Opera House located at 160 W. Virginia Beach Blvd. Norfolk, VA 23510

Please have your dancer arrive in their first costume, dressed and ready with hair and makeup complete.

Please have one parent/guardian drop your dancer off at the stage door on the left side of Harrison Opera House. Staff will be present to take your child and any additional costumes.

Act Two ONLY dancers will wait in the audience and will report backstage at intermission.

Please do not send your dancer with any bags or belongings other than garment bags.

We ask that you please label every single item with your dancer’s name.

Any guest, including the parent dropping off, must enter through the main entrance in the front of the building to be seated. Auditorium doors will open at 5 pm for the dress rehearsal and 1 pm for the recital.

We will hold your child from drop off until they have finished their last dance. This means if your dancer is in more than one dance, you do not need to assist in costume changes.

Once your dancer has completed their final dance, please head backstage immediately to pick them up from the pickup area {Room C} (Exit from back of theater where you entered, turn right to go backstage, signs and ushers will be present).

Only ONE parent/guardian backstage for pickup & drop-off. Each family will receive a red wristband and will be required to have the wristband with them when picking their dancer up. We will not release a dancer without this wristband.

Once your dancer has finished dancing and has been picked up, you may re-enter the theater to watch the remainder of the show, or you are free to leave.

Please note that costumes may not be readily available to pick up, and we ask that you have patience as staff will be bringing them to the pickup area (Room C) periodically.
